4 essential tips for planning your dream kitchen

Planning your dream kitchen is a hugely rewarding thing to do. It allows you to have complete control over every aspect of the new room and ensure that you end up with exactly what you want. However, it also means that you need to be extremely careful as the slightest mistake can ruin a fantastic kitchen design.

Here are our top 4 tips for planning your dream kitchen:

1. Minimise the number of steps you’ll need to take

When planning where to put your appliances and cupboard space, you should really aim to be as efficient as possible. For example, think about where the sink is in relation to the oven. If they’re not close by, then you’re going to spend a lot of time carrying pans of water back and forth when cooking.

2. Plan your counter top space wisely

You need to be careful to ensure you have the right amount of countertop space and even more importantly that you have spaces in the places you need it. The sink, for example, is one place that you’ll want to plan some space next to, for a draining board. Also, you might want to make sure there is plenty of space around the hob to keep the food you’re preparing close by.

3. Think carefully about storage space

Storage is essential in the kitchen and there’s nothing worse than finding out you don’t have enough when it’s too late. Make a list of all the things you need to account for and plan storage space for each. This includes pots and pans, cutlery, plates, bowls and various other cooking equipment that you might have. Don’t forget to include space for your food too!

4. Do you have enough electrical sockets?

Kitchens require a lot of electricity, so make sure you’ve planned in enough sockets to power everything you might need to use. For starters, you will need an outlet for your fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave and other permanent fixtures. You will also need to think ahead for non-permanent appliances, such as toasters, blenders, coffee machines and anything else you might need. This is key as it’s best to keep the need for extension leads to a minimum in the kitchen as they can present a hazard.

Choose wisely to create the perfect kitchen as like they say ‘the kitchen is the heart of any home!’
